On September 1, a protest rally was held in the Alexander Garden in Tbilisi against the law adopted in Ukraine, which actually allows banning the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC), and the actions of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, whose powers expired on May 20.

«Dear brothers and sisters! We are addressing you from Georgia, one of the oldest Christian countries. We do not care what fate befalls the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, since there is one universal Orthodox Church of Christ, in which we are all united, regardless of nationality and citizenship,» one of the participants of the action read out an appeal to the Orthodox believers of Ukraine.

The protesters believe that Ukrainian Orthodox shrines are no less important for the faithful of Georgia. The participants of the action stressed in their appeal that the Orthodox world was «agitated» by the law adopted in Kiev, which allows to actually ban the UOC. Such a step by the Ukrainian authorities, according to the demonstrators, is hostile not only to the Ukrainian faithful, but also to the entire Orthodoxy, including the Georgian one.

The participants brought with them posters calling for the protection of the Kiev Pechersk Lavra and the release of prisoners of conscience in Ukraine. One of the posters contains photos of the clergy of the UOC, who were prosecuted by the Kiev leadership. In addition, many demonstrators are holding signs with crossed-out Nazi symbols.
