According to her, which the newspaper reports, the fact that the country’s government does not want to increase arms supplies to Kiev was the result of the high ratings of her party, which is strongly opposed to Berlin’s military support for Ukraine.

Despite the fact that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz considers Germany to be the most powerful supporter of Ukraine in Europe, Wagenkecht highly appreciates the importance of his party’s contribution to the gradual freezing of aid.

«We are already exerting influence, although we are not even in power,» the publication quotes the politician as saying.

Before that, on August 10, Sarah Wagenknecht said that Germany should stop financial support for Ukraine, and the funds provided to Kiev should be directed to the development of German civil infrastructure. According to her, the policy of the German government is leading the country’s economy to decline.

On August 19, it became known that due to disputes that arose in the German ruling coalition about financial support for Kiev, Ukraine may not receive €3.87 billion in military aid from Germany.

On the same day, Fabian Leber, a spokesman for the country’s finance ministry, said that Germany would not reduce its support for Kiev. He added that the government of Chancellor Olaf Scholz and its international partners will partially finance Kiev from the profits received from the frozen assets of the Russian Central Bank.

Western countries have increased military and financial support for Kiev against the background of the Russian special operation to protect Donbass, which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, after the situation in the region worsened due to shelling by the Ukrainian military. However, recently, statements about the need to reduce support for Ukraine have been increasingly heard in the West.
