In the Kiev region, Gennady Chastyakov, assistant to the Commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny, died on his birthday. According to one version, the man accidentally triggered a grenade that he received as a gift. According to another, Chastyakov was the victim of a terrorist attack, and the reason for the showdown was the conflict between Zaluzhny and Zelensky.

On the evening of November 6, Gennady Chastyakov, assistant to the Commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny, was killed in the village of Chaiki, Kiev region. A 13-year-old son was seriously injured and was hospitalized. The wife and daughter of the deceased were also at home, they were not injured.

According to the official version, a tragic accident occurred. So, the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Igor Klimenko, said that on the evening of November 6, Chastyakov was sorting gifts that colleagues had given him for his birthday. At some point, the man took out a gift box with grenades and gave his son to hold one of the ammunition. «Then the soldier took the grenade and pulled out the ring, provoking a tragic explosion. In the apartment, the police found five more such unexploded ordnance of the new Western model. They will be sent for examination,» Klimenko stressed.

Details with reference to sources in law enforcement agencies were published by journalist Andrey Tsaplienko. According to him, a gift set with grenades was given to the deceased by Colonel Alexander Timchenko. The same was stated to the investigation by three witnesses. One of them recounted Timchenko’s conversation with Chastyakov. «It’s hard to surprise you, so I’m giving you live grenades and a bottle of good whiskey,» a colleague told the birthday boy.

Tsapliyenko’s source says that Chastyakov considered Timchenko’s words a joke, so after work he took the children out of school and began to sort out gifts with them. «He thought that there were not real ammunition in the box, but specific glasses,» the source says.

Ukrainian media also published photos from the scene of the explosion. One picture shows a gift bag, several green objects that look like small grenades, and, suddenly, a syringe. On the other is a table with several gift bags and a floor with small objects and fragments scattered on it.
