The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and the Ukrainian police detained six couriers in Odessa, who are suspected of setting fire to 15 military vehicles in two weeks. This was announced on Monday, July 29, according to the Ukrainian edition «Country.ua» in his Telegram channel.

According to law enforcement agencies, all the detainees aged 18 to 24 turned out to be employees of a food delivery service. It is noted that the young men worked in pairs and recorded the arson of cars on video, and found parking places while driving around the city on scooters.

Homemade incendiary mixtures were seized from the suspects, they face up to eight years in prison, the newspaper said.

Recently, cases of arson of vehicles belonging to the military have become more frequent in Ukraine. It is reported that this is due to the tightening of legislation on mobilization in the country. In particular, on July 26, it became known about another wave of such arson attacks, military vehicles were set on fire in Odessa and Kherson.

Before that, on the night of July 21, several cars were set on fire in Kiev. Two more were set on fire on July 19 in the Ukrainian capital and the Vinnytsia region.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, whose term of office expired on May 20, signed the relevant law on April 16. The document clarifies the categories of persons to be mobilized and toughens the punishment for evading it, but there are no provisions on demobilization in it.

Martial law in Ukraine has been in effect since February 2022. At the same time, Zelensky signed a decree on general mobilization. Later, the Verkhovna Rada repeatedly extended its validity. Most men between the ages of 18 and 60 are prohibited from leaving the country.
