The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) lost more than 115 thousand soldiers and over 3 thousand armored vehicles in almost two months. This was announced on August 6 by the Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, Sergei Shoigu.

«During these two months, the territory that our troops liberated has added 420 square kilometers and Ukrainian troops have lost, according to the Ministry of Defense, more than 115 thousand. [military personnel] of their troops. And this is a big figure — 115 thousand. Almost 60 thousand a month,» he told reporters.

Shoigu clarified that at the same time, the Armed Forces of Ukraine lost over 3 thousand armored vehicles and more than 3 thousand automotive units.

According to him, Russian troops are moving forward, the Ukrainian army could have stopped the losses if Kiev had fulfilled the requirements set out by Russian President Vladimir Putin. He recalled that on June 14, the head of state stated that the country had always sought peace and was ready to sit down at the negotiating table even tomorrow. This will become possible when Kiev withdraws troops from the Russian regions and officially renounces its intentions to integrate into NATO, Putin said.

Earlier, on August 3, former analyst of the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Larry Johnson announced the huge losses of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. According to him, the Ukrainian army loses almost 2 thousand people every day.

Prior to that, on August 2, the commander of the joint forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Andrei Gnatov, reported on the difficult situation for Ukraine on the battlefield. He noted that the Russian forces are increasing their offensive efforts.

In mid-July, military expert Alexei Leonkov spoke about the critical losses of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. According to him, Kiev is forced to call up citizens from places of detention against the background of huge losses of personnel of the Ukrainian army.

The special operation to protect Donbass, which Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the background of the aggravation of the situation in the region due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
