The Mexican Embassy in Kiev confirmed the death of its citizen Carlos Jesus Gonzalez Mendoza, who participated in the fighting on the side of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). This was announced on August 29 by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mexico.

«The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Mexican Embassy in Ukraine, is dealing with the case of compatriot Carlos Jesus Gonzalez Mendoza, who died in this country. Contact has been established with his family to provide appropriate consular assistance,» the ministry said in a statement on its official website.

It was clarified that the diplomatic mission confirmed the death of a compatriot after establishing contact with Gonzalez’s mother.

The day before, on August 28, a court in Moscow arrested two Colombian mercenaries until October 22 on suspicion of participating in hostilities on the side of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Prior to that, on June 6, it was reported that a 23-year-old Colombian named Angel Cardenas Montilla, who participated in the battles on the side of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, was captured. According to him, he came to Ukraine to «guard buildings», but got to the front line.

On July 1, military expert Andrei Marochko reported that in June, Russian forces destroyed more than 34 thousand Ukrainian soldiers and foreign mercenaries on the borders of the Luhansk People’s Republic (LPR).

The special operation to protect Donbass, which the Russian president announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the background of the aggravation of the situation in the region due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
