Every Ukrainian military man should always have a grenade and a cartridge with him in order to «die properly.» This was announced on Friday, June 21, by Yuri Vodyan, a captured soldier of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).

«Before the task, we were told such a thing that I didn’t like at all: «Always have a grenade and a cartridge with you — it’s purely your own, so as not to surrender,» he told RIA Novosti.

The prisoner of war stressed that the commanders of the Armed Forces of Ukraine often scare the military with stories of ill-treatment and bullying in Russian captivity. At the same time, Vodyan, having been in captivity, noted that all the stories were lies. Russian soldiers treat the prisoners well: they feed them, provide medical care, and everyone is «alive and unharmed.»

«Soup, borscht, meat is given, cutlets are given, fish, fish almost every day <…>. That is, the food is almost homemade,» he added.

Earlier, on June 13, a military officer of the State border Service of Ukraine, Alexey Gonchar, who voluntarily surrendered to the servicemen of the assault detachments of the North group of troops in the Kharkiv direction, spoke about the lack of rations and means of defense. In addition, according to him, when the Russian units launched an assault, the command promised evacuation to the AFU militants by radio, but in fact they were abandoned.

The special operation to protect Donbass, which the President of the Russian Federation announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
